Jason Corbett was killed in 2015. He died at the hands of his wife Molly Martens, and her former FBI father, Thomas Martens. He was badly beaten with a baseball bat and brick. In the initial trial, District Attorney Alan Martin described to the jury how Corbett had such serious head injuries, his autopsy could not determine exactly how many times he was struck.
Molly claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse, and in that moment, feared for her life. Her father Thomas claimed he entered the room after hearing Molly screaming, and Jason was strangling her. He said he did what he did to save his daughter’s life.
Now, people are discussing photos from the incident. “I literally cannot describe the shock after seeing the crime scene photos from the Deadly American Marriage documentary on Netflix. How are they just free to live their normal lives right now,” one person on TikTok said.
Some of the chilling images were shared in the Netflix film, but others have come from police records. They show huge blood splatters in the bedroom Molly and Jason shared, as well as the two weapons. A vacuum cleaner can be seen covered in blood, as well as walls in the hallway.

“He had so many blows to his head that the pathologist couldn’t count them because they overlapped and a chunk of Jason’s skull fell out onto the table. It takes an incredible amount of force to cause that kind of injury.”

Molly Martens and her father Thomas were found guilty of second-degree murder in 2017. However, their convictions were later reversed by the North Carolina Court of Appeals. After accepting a plea bargain to reduced charges, they were both released from prison in 2024.
Since the doc, the Corbett family has released a statement. They explained why they took part in the film, and slammed “cold, calculating and callous” Thomas Martens.
