Jason Corbett’s family releases damning statement after A Deadly American Marriage on Netflix

They called out Thomas Martens, and said he’s ‘cold, calculating and callous’

Following the release of A Deadly American Marriage on Netflix, the family of Jason Corbett has shared a statement. The family explained why the chose to take part in the documentary film. They then went in on Thomas Martens for what he said during his Netflix interview.

Jason Corbett was killed in 2015. He died at the hands of his wife Molly Martens, and her former FBI father, Thomas Martens. At first it looked like the two had used excessive force and beaten Jason to death with a brick and a baseball bat.

However, Molly claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse, and in that moment, feared for her life. Her father Thomas claimed he entered the room after hearing Molly screaming, and Jason was strangling her. He said he did what he did to save his daughter’s life.

Posting in a group that shares updates on the fight for justice, the family of Jason Corbett have shared their thoughts. They said: “Participating in the Netflix documentary was important to us because it highlights the profound impact of the absence of justice we faced in the judicial system. We are not alone in our experiences. We hope the documentary honours Jason’s memory while advocating for justice and ensuring that the voices of victims are heard, especially when the judicial system has failed them.

“Jason would have wanted us to speak out on his behalf – he was a loving and engaged person who valued connection and was a responsible, socially-engaged citizen. We hope that sharing our experiences on the platform will support victims of injustice by fostering resilience and promoting awareness and empowerment.”

The family also discussed comments Tom Martens made during the documentary. He claimed he has “no regrets” after what he did. Tom said he felt he needed to protect daughter Molly. He claimed he believed she would have died if he hadn’t stepped in.

The Corbett family said: “How cold and callous Tom is, ‘no regrets’ for bludgeoning a man to death. No marks on him or Molly Martens. Self defence… don’t make me laugh! Should have been first degree murder. I think you would all agree with me that Tom Martens’ remarks on the Netflix trailer reflects exactly what a cold, calculating and callous killer he is. HE HAS NO REGRETS for his actions on August 2nd 2015. Jack and Sarah have to live with the consequences of his ‘no regrets’ every day of their lives.”
