4/20 in Bristol: What your favourite place to go says about you
Every student’s favourite day of the year is fast approaching!
The 20th of April is nearly upon us once again, and this year it lands on Easter Sunday lol. What better way to celebrate both holidays than to sit back and relax, grab your mates, your lighters and go explore Bristol at its finest, after a Sunday Lunch of course.
Castle Park
A classic for a reason, Castle Park is perhaps the busiest place to go on the day, especially when the sun is out. Don’t go here if you get sleepy after you smoke, as pretty much all of Bristol’s amateur DJs use Castle Park as their own personal venue, so this is the place to go if you fancy a cheeky boogie. If this is your place of choice, your favourite place to club is definitely Lakota, and you’re never seen without your chrome sunglasses and Sambas that you pair with pretty much everything.
The Downs
One of the more chill places to go, with rolling green spaces to laze around in a smoky haze, the Downs is a great spot to have a more chill day. If you favour the Downs as your smoke spot, you’re probably a North Village fresher, armed with a speaker and a dream. You’re most likely a Fishies warrior, and you love to break out a disposable BBQ on the Downs anytime there’s the slightest hint of sun. Just watch out for any stray footballs being kicked around by the local Wills boys who think they are the next sporting prodigy after one joint.
Brandon Hill
Most Read
With endless views of Bristol that seem to go on forever, Brandon Hill is arguably a prime location for a smoke sesh. Stare out at the city and relax as the hazy fumes wash over you, and listen to the soft chatter of the West Village freshers that love to frequent Cabot Tower with digital cameras and lighters in hand. If you go here, you’re probably a second or third year that still wants a bit of excitement, but without the hassle of Castle Park or the fresher fest of the Downs.
Harbourside
King Street, V-Shed, and more, Harbourside is the perfect place to head to on 4/20, even if you aren’t smoking. Sit on the wall by Three Brothers Burgers and watch the boats drift upstream, or grab a pint from one of the pubs on King Street. If you prefer to go Harbourside to smoke, you probably love a Thekla Thursday, and roll your own cigarettes outside Senate in between study sessions. 4/20 isn’t much of a special occasion for you, as you love a nightly spark up with your flatmates before you head to bed.
Your garden
A fan of home comforts, you can’t be bothered with the faff of venturing out, and prefer to chill with your housemates, a wise choice considering the streams of students that crowd out Bristol when the calendar hits 20th April. You’re probably a third year in the throes of dissertation work, and smoking at home is the perfect respite from a long stint in the library. Its also nice to take the time to have a proper catchup with your housemates before you all get too caught up in work, even if the topics of conversation may be a substance induced fever dream.
Your bedroom
If you decide to spark up in your own room, this day is probably no special occasion for you, and an intervention might be needed. A nightly joint is your bedtime ritual, as you claim it helps you sleep better, and you are definitely a third year whose idea of a night out is going to White Bear. Seriously – get outside, or break the mould and put the spliff down for once, you might enjoy it.
