So one of the Adolescence cast was actually wearing a wig?! You’ll literally never spot it
Choosing to wear a wig actually makes a lot of sense
So it turns out one of the Adolescence cast members was actually wearing a wig for their scenes, and after taking a closer look at the actor’s real-life hair, I have just one question: Why??
We are now two weeks post Adolescence drop which means we are obsessing over every minute detail about the record-breaking show. Already, people have noticed a few errors and there are a whole host of hidden meanings bobbling about the internet.
Now some new information has come to light about a cast member wearing a wig for their scenes – and we didn’t even have to hunt for it because the wigmaker, who also did the hair for Wicked, has come forward.
Erin Doherty was actually wearing a wig in Adolescence

Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham’s performances were undoubtedly standouts, but Erin Doherty does not get enough credit for stepping into the role of child psychologist Briony Ariston. I was completely enthralled by her scenes, and the fact that it was a female psychologist addressing the misogynistic nature of Jamie’s crime made for truly gripping TV.
Apparently, I was so transfixed by her performance that I missed her wearing a wig because stylist Samuel James has since detailed being hired by the Netflix production.
“Wig made by us for Erin Doherty’s incredible portrayal of child psychologist Briony Ariston,” he captioned the post alongside images of Erin’s wig. “Little did we know the impact this series would have and the technical masterpiece behind the filming.”
Reacting to the strange revelation, one person wrote: “Would never have thought that was a wig. Looks completely natural and suits Erin. I wonder why she couldn’t just have her own hair?”
“This was a wig?!! Gasp. Sooooo good!!” another said.
A third wrote: “People don’t know that it’s the simplest hairstyles that are the hardest to get perfect in a wig … and you guys nailed it.. so flat on top .. beautiful part and the hair is gorgeous.”
Naturally, I had to Google Erin Doherty’s real hair and was confused to learn that it’s basically the same as her character’s. There are a few reasons she could have opted to wear a wig, with the leading theory being time management. Why would you spend hours in a makeup chair every morning when production could have your perfectly quaffed wig ready to be installed first thing?
