Finished Adolescence? These six shows are streaming on Netflix and have the same vibe
There are two Stephen Graham projects in this list, for obvious reasons
Netflix’s new limited series Adolescence has been an instant hit on the streaming platform, and though there are only four episodes to enjoy, there are tons of shows just like it that are waiting for a binge.
With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100 per cent and a gimmicky way of filming the series in one continuous shot, Adolescence is shaping up to be the Baby Reindeer of March 2025.
“When a 13-year-old is accused of the murder of a classmate, his family, therapist and the detective in charge are all left asking: what really happened?” the official Netflix description reads.
The legend Stephen Graham leads the cast of Adolescence, backed up by the talents of Erin Doherty, Top Boy’s Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, and Christine Tremarco. The breakout star has undoubtedly been Owen Cooper who played 13-year-old suspected killer Jamie.
If you’ve finished the four episodes but still have a hankering for a dark drama to sink your teeth into, give these other projects a go.
1. Boiling Point
If you’re a fan of Stephen Graham projects – which you should be because he’s amazing – then the Boiling Point is an obvious next choice for your Netflix queue. It follows him as a severely stressed-out chef dealing with everything from personal crises to demanding customers. It’s a tense watch and kinda better than The Bear if you ask me.
2. Toxic Town
Toxic Town is another recent Netflix addition, and while it lacks the murderous edge that Adolescence has, it’s arguably more twisted because it’s a very real story. The three-episode series tells the tale of Corby residents whose kids were born with defects because of industrial pollution.
3. Adoration
Most Read
Adoration is an Italian Netflix show that sees 16-year-old Elena suddenly vanish. Though everyone thinks the rebellious teen has simply run away, her best friend knows differently and sets out to find Elena.
“When a 16-year-old girl vanishes, secrets come to light and disrupt a small community as her friends and family try to re-create her last movements,” the official description reads.
4. A Confession
A Confession was originally an ITV show in 2019 but it has since been uploaded to Netflix in its entirety. Again, it’s about the disappearance of a young woman and about straddling the line between justice and procedure.
The biggest positive of this show is undoubtedly its stacked cast as it stars Martin Freeman, Imelda Staunton, Joe Absolom, Siobhan Finneran, and Derek Riddell.
5. Criminal: UK
Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, Criminal: UK boasts huge talents such as Kit Harington, Katherine Kelly, Sophie Okonedo, Sharon Horgan, and Hayley Atwell. The gripping show only takes place inside a police interview suite and the stripped-back approach infuses the series with more tension.
The best part? If you’re a fan of Criminal: UK then you can then jump on the other versions: Criminal: France, Criminal: Germany, and Criminal: Spain.
6. The Walk In
Did you say you wanted another Stephen Graham project? Sold.
The five-part 2022 series takes place during a particularly murky part of British history, Brexit, which I realise is not saying much because we are collectively awful. Stephen plays a political activist hoping to spread hope in a country so entrenched in far-right extremism. Predictably, it’s still very relevant three years later.
All of these projects are on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
