Wait, Grace could take legal action against Mitch for posting fake texts screenshots about her?!

A lawyer told The Tab he ‘meddled’ with her potentially winning the show and boosting her career

In the last few days, the drama with Grace and apparent messages she sent about wanting to win All Stars has been everywhere. It started with Liv claiming she had receipts, and somewhere along the line Messy Mitch added his two pence. A lawyer has now said Grace could have a legal case against Mitch, over the Love Island texts.

In the villa, Liv said: “So I’ve seen text messages of Grace just saying to someone that she’ll do whatever it takes to win the show.” Apparent screenshots then went viral, which appeared to be of Grace saying things such as: “I am being dead serious we can bet on it. I will win this.” Another said: “I’ll do everything and anything in my power to win babe.”

Since the show, Grace has again called them out as being fake. But where the plot really thickened was when former Love Island cast member Mitch Taylor got involved, and he posted some of the texts appearing to be from Grace. He later admitted the reason he shared them was an attempt to try and stop Grace winning the show. He wanted his mate Casey to win, which he did end up doing.

Following this, the conversation has now moved to whether or not Mitch should have considered any legal repercussions for what he did. Claudia Bish, Grace’s partner Luca’s sister, waded in on this argument. “Luca lives in Mitch’s head rent free,” she said on TikTok. “What a sad little life. Hopefully a defamation case against him from Grace is pending.”

So, The Tab asked a legal expert if Grace would have any grounds following what happened. It turns out, she very much would. Lanny Tuchmayer is a lawyer at Bergel Magence LLP, and he said Grace would have a “very strong legal claim against Mitch”. This is given the initial insult, and the fact winning Love Island comes with a £50k prize fund, and plenty of career opportunities afterwards.

‘Mitch meddled intentionally and maliciously with Grace’s potential income’

“Grace could have a very strong legal case for insult, intentional interference with economic advantage, and could probably go for the last one, depending on the jurisdiction-false light invasion of privacy,” Lanny told The Tab. “Defamation, still more of that under the head of libel (the statements were published), occurs when someone throws false statements harmful to another individual’s title.

“Mitch even confessed that he had created screenshots showing Grace as a schemer who ‘would do anything’ to win the show. Considering the importance of public perception in reality TV careers, such remarks can actually cut damaging pathways in reputations, leading to loss of votes and reducing opportunities post-show.

“In addition to the above, Grace may also have an action for intentional interference with economic advantage. Reality show contestants usually get sponsorships, brands entering into collaborative events, and media slots because of the public image they project in favour with the audience. Now, if those false statements affected the voting process, thus risked her losing that £50,000 and many more future openings in her career, she could have a claim that he meddled intentionally and maliciously with her potential income.”

He added the case would be tough to prove. This is because courts take into consideration the intent in the action. There may also be contractual restrictions with ITV that play a part.

The Tab reached out to Mitch’s management who said it would be “embarrassing” to think there’s a claim here. They instead said: “Thousands of people shared that post not knowing it was fake which happens every day in social media, I really don’t think that’s grounds for litigation. Mitch just shared something he got sent and asked his followers if it was real or fake.”
