Heartbreakingly personal reason Kaitlyn Dever was cast as Belle Gibson in Apple Cider Vinegar

Kaitlyn Dever plays Belle Gibson in Netflix’s new series, Apple Cider Vinegar, which shines a light on real-life Australian scammer Belle, who pretended she both had and cured a brain tumour using natural remedies.

It seems the director always had Kaitlyn in mind for the role after she was offered the role without even having to audition.

The director told Tudum: “Kaitlyn is masterful. I think she’s one of the most extraordinary actors of her generation.

“She’s also a complete nerd. I have yet to see another human being as hardworking as Kaitlyn.”

However, it turns out there’s also a heartbreakingly personal reason why Kaitlyn Dever decided to accept the role of Belle Gibson in Apple Cider Vinegar.

As for the deciding that pushed Kaitlyn Dever to accept playing the part of Belle Gibson in Apple Cider Vinegar, it was in order to pay tribute to her mum who passed away from cancer last February.

Kaitlyn revealed her mum had previously been “obsessed” with the whole Belle Gibson case and read and watched everything to do with it.

She revealed: “My dad has seen it, my sisters have seen it, and they all love it. My mom really liked reading this series, she was obsessed with it, so I’m honouring her in this role.”

Kaitlyn’s mother passed away from breast cancer last February, giving her role in the Netflix series an even more poignant air.

The actress commemorated her mother’s passing at the time, writing: “I don’t even have the words.
