There’s a plot hole in Missing You on Netflix and it’s honestly so frustrating
I’m not buying this story
Having watched all of Missing You on Netflix in one sitting, one particular plot hole has left me more than annoyed. Harlan Coben shows are known for twists, turns and drama. They don’t really take themselves too seriously, and the chaos just runs away with itself. People have even spotted an editing error for good measure, too.
However, there’s one stressful plot hole in Missing You that means the story should have been over before it begun. For the majority of the show, when we’re not at strange side plots, the show follows detective Kat Donovan as she tries to find out what happened to her dad. She wants to know who killed him, and why.
Whilst this is going on, she has the drama that her ex Josh suddenly upped and left her 11 years ago when they were engaged. And now, she’s matched him on a dating app. There’s a lot going on in her life.
Out of the blue, a teenager turns up at her office and says his mum is missing, and he needs her help to find her. Like Kat needed any more drama!
But, this is where the plot hole comes in. Kat’s best friend is a private investigator, and boasts that she’s the best in the business. However, they’ve had 11 years, and senior detective Kat and her PI bestie have never found anything on Josh? We find out he hasn’t even left the area – he’s been just up the road and watching over her this whole time, too?!

The teenager who pops up wanting help with finding his mum has suddenly found that Josh was in a bar fight just after he left, and Kat never knew this? He sits Kat down, who I’ll remind you is senior in the police force, and she has no idea digital footprints exist. This teenager with a laptop has found Josh’s fake online social media profiles within a day, and the bar fight story. Kat’s PI best friend also drew a blank on this.
Just to add insult, Kat’s friend even saw Josh in their local park. Yet, she still didn’t think to look into him? I’m not buying it. Netflix, I’m going to need more next time.
