Haunting texts New York mother sent before poisoning her four kids show her ‘planning murders’

The four children were found dead alongside their mother and grandma

Police have revealed the chilling texts a mother and grandma sent before poisoning and killing her four children in June 2026, which authorities say show how they “communicated and coordinated” the murders.

Six people were found dead inside a New York home on 23rd June in a murder-suicide, including Amy Steadman, 64, her daughter Sarah Myers, 44, and Myers’ four children, Harper Harmon, 13, Hudson Harmon, 11, Gavin Harmon, 10 and Gracelynn Harmon, 10.

Authorities found the bodies in Steadman’s house in Mechanicville, just days before they were due to stay with their dad Brady Harmon in Utah. Three of the children had been fatally poisoned, while 10-year-old Gavin had been stabbed.

“Evidence recovered during the investigation, including a handwritten note, and other circumstantial evidence, strongly suggests that Amy Steadman was involved in the deaths,” Mechanicville police chief William Rabbitt said at the time.

In a tragic update this week, the police chief has now revealed that the two women “conspired in carrying out the murders of the four children before taking their own lives”. Text messages from 5th June show them planning the homicides.

“Those conversations documented discussions regarding obtaining medications, where the murders would occur, how those medications would be administered, how the children would be brought together, what they would be told and how suspicions could be avoided,” Rabbitt said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“In one exchange, Sarah Myers instructed Amy Steadman that the medications should be administered between 10.30am and noon so they could be finished before a scheduled telephone call at 6 pm with the children’s father.” After one of the children didn’t respond as they expected, one of the women wrote: “It’s not working, we need another option.”

The 10-year-old daughter Gracelynn then sent her own text message complaining that her stomach was hurting. She wrote: “Why would you do that? You both won’t let me puke.” Steadman horrifyingly texted Myers: “Gracie is aware.”

“Those communications are important because they document far more than planning. They show that Steadman and Myers were communicating and coordinating while the murders were taking place,” Rabbitt said.

The children’s father also revealed their last text conversation in a harrowing Facebook post this week. In the final message, Myers wrote: “The kids have gotten a little stomach bug throwing up is it okay to switch your online visit to tomorrow night at 4pm your time please.”

“Okay I will keep painting then. Hopefully they feel better soon,” he replied. The following day, he asked, “Are the kiddos feeling better?” but got no response. He then tried to video call at 4.02pm, but there was no answer.

The father raised a welfare check, as did neighbour Stephanie Sweeney, who called the police because she had not heard from the family in days. Sweeney told The Sun she “noticed the smell of death” and saw flies gathering around the window.

Harmon hadn’t seen his kids in person since 2019 as they were locked in a custody battle. He was due to take them to live with him in Utah for 60 days over the summer before they were tragically killed.
