They’re more than just pretty faces! Here’s where the House of the Dragon cast went to uni

With House of the Dragon blowing up as one of the biggest shows on telly right now, it’s no surprise that the actors are becoming majorly successful and recognised for their talents. But surprisingly, a lot of them actually went to uni before hitting it big in the TV and film industry, with some of them studying completely irrelevant degrees. Here’s a look at where the House of the Dragon cast uni.

Matt Smith – UEA

So apparently you need a degree to become the Eleventh Doctor and Daemon Targaryen? Matt studied a bachelor’s in drama and creative writing in Norwich between 2002 and 2005. He was a fresher in uni before a lot of House of the Dragon fans were even born.

Ok! Emma is a huge up and coming actor, having previously performing in shows for Amazon Prime Video, BBC One and Netflix. But back in the day, they graduated from the University of Oxford after studying for a bachelor’s in fine art at the Ruskin School of Art.

Ok! Smart cookie Graham who plays Ser Harrold Westerling in House of the Dragon studied English literature at Queen Mary, University of London. Apparently, hus love for literature was inspired by his education. Whilst at uni, he was also allowed to perform in three Shakespeare plays per year, earning him an Equity card after he starred in a Samuel Beckett play.

Playing King Viserys I Targaryen in House of the Dragon, Paddy actually studied photography at the University of Brighton. And he even got a first!

Steve Toussaint – Sussex

Whilst studying politics at the University of Sussex, Steve was  scouted for a role and joined a drama society. He then went onto work in merchant banking and hospital administration before going back into acting after taking evening drama classes.

Eve Best – Oxford

Eve studied English at Lincoln College, Oxford and appeared in Oxford University Dramatic Society productions during her time there. She even performed at the Edinburgh Festival before making her professional debut as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing at the Southwark Playhouse.

Rhys Ifans – Bangor

Rhys, who has previously been in Spiderman, Nanny McPhee and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, never actually attended uni in the typical sense.

Despite that, the House of the Dragon actor who played the Hand of the King actually received an Honorary Fellowship of Bangor University, for services to the film industry.
