Omg, the kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria in House of the Dragon was completely unscripted

Right, after a few episodes of some serious tension building between Rhaenyra and Mysaria, they still took us all by surprise with *that* steamy kiss during House of the Dragon. And I’m 100 per cent here for it. Whilst their kiss was rudely interrupted in the show, it turns out it originally wasn’t even featured in the script at all.

Sonoya Mizuno who plays Mysaria revealed originally that there was just a “breath” between them, but Emma D’Arcy suggested in the moment that it felt right for the two characters to kiss. And let’s be honest, this basically confirms there were definitely some vibes between Alicent and Rhaenyra when they were younger.

In an interview with Variety, Emma D’arcy revealed: “Honestly, I think initially there was just such a desire to connect. I think what you see initially is intimacy, and an intimacy that Rhaenyra shares so rarely. Even in some of her other romantic relationships, there’s a lot of presentation, there’s a lot of bravado, often from both sides. Certainly with Daemon, I think both parties struggle to reveal themselves in weakness, and that their eroticism is sort of predicated on power.

“Whereas with Mysaria, in this growing relationship — it’s remarkably honest. Initially, there’s huge feelings of empathy and gratitude toward this person. Rhaenyra is hugely affected by the life that Mysaria has lived so bravely. Then, they are two bodies completely overrun by touch. As soon as they embrace and their bodies are touching, I think it’s pure bodily desire.”

Sonoya thinks the kiss took both of them “by surprise” but that it’s a “beautiful, tender” moment between them both. She explained: “There’s nothing Machiavellian in it, as far as I’m concerned. It’s a really beautiful, tender kiss, and it would be impossible not to feel something as Mysaria in that moment.

“I don’t think she has had that kind of kiss — maybe ever. And I think sex and sexuality is very complicated for her, given her history as a young woman with her father, and then going into her professional work life. So to have that such a tender, loving and passionate moment would have woken something up.”

As for how the moment between Rhaenyra and Mysaria was originally written in the House of the Dragon script, Sonoya revealed the kiss was completely unscripted.

She admitted to The Wrap: “It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as … there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted. Because we were separate in the room … [and] Mysaria has told this story, [D’Arcy] felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her. From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss.” Honestly can these two just run away together and leave Daemon to his haunted house?
