Bella Hadid, Beyoncé, Blake Lively: Celebs who didn’t attend the Met Gala and why

The best dressed stayed home

Everyone has certain celebs they look out for at the Met Gala and thousands of fans on Twitter were left disappointed this year when some of the biggest names in showbiz, including Bella Hadid, Beyoncé and Blake Lively opted to stay home rather than accept Anna Wintour’s invitation to the fashion fundraiser.

So, in case you’re wondering where your favourite celebrity was last night, here’s a rundown of the stars who didn’t attend this year’s Met Gala and why:

Zendaya

Zendaya last went to the Met Gala in 2019, dressed in a Cinderella inspired dress. She hasn’t yet spoken out on why she missed the Met this year but it’s likely to do with a schedule clash as Euphoria is set to start filming any day now after costume designer Heidi Bivens confirmed pre production began in April.

Harry Styles

Harry only attended the Met Gala in 2019 when he was one of the co-chairs and, like Zendaya, he’s most likely not there due to a diary clash as he has a gig in Denmark scheduled for this weekend.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber has been attending the Met Gala for years so it was a serious shock to not see her there. However, although she hasn’t made a statement today, Hailey recently explained to fans how she’s been struggling with her mental health:

“Truthfully, since 2023 started I have had some of the saddest, hardest moments I’ve ever had in my adult life and my mind and emotions have been fragile to say the least,” she said.  “And I know so many other people feel the same way I feel, so just know you’re not alone.”

Selena Gomez

Selena last went to the Met Gala in 2018 and seems not to have attended this year because she only just finished filming the third season of Only Murders in the Building. So, she probs needs a bit of a break.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to be much of a fan of the Met Gala as she last attended in 2016. She hasn’t given a statement on why she didn’t walk the carpet this year. But, obv, she’s been performing almost every night for her The Eras Tour across the US.

Miley Cyrus

Miley hasn’t been to the Met Gala since 2019 and she skipped last year because she was touring in South Africa. Although she wasn’t on tour this year, she has been doing a heavy promo circuit for her new album.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga also hasn’t attended the Met since 2019 when she was a co-chair and hasn’t confirmed why she didn’t attend this year. But she did only just finish filming Joker 2. So, it seems like another schedule clash.

Beyoncé

This is the SEVENTH year Beyoncé has skipped the Met Gala and the world is in mourning. According to the Daily Mail, Beyonce was on holiday in Miami with Jay-Z, which would definitely explain why she wasn’t there. She’s also prepping for her Renaissance tour, which we are HYPED for.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively has basically been the queen of the Met Gala ever since her In America themed dress in 2018. But Blake revealed she wouldn’t be there this year after she recently gave birth to her fourth child. “I will be watching,” she told  E! Online. So, she’s probs judging all the outfits from home like the rest of us.

Bella Hadid

Potentially the biggest disappointment on Twitter was that Bella Hadid didn’t attend the Met Gala this year. She was rumoured to be attending and was on the carpet in 2022 but skipped the event on Monday. She reposted a photo of her sister GiGi on the carpet on Instagram, captioning the story “We love you @karllagerfeld” but didn’t reveal why she stayed home herself.
