The York Tab is looking for new writers and we want you!

Come to our open meeting on Tuesday 11th October

Want to break the biggest news stories on campus? Need something for the CV? Want to meet new people? Well, The York Tab is on the hunt for new writers and we want you!

The York Tab is a news site written by York students, for York students. Anyone of any year or course can get involved, no journalism experience is needed.

We’re holding our first open meeting of the year next Tuesday, 11th October in SLB/102 (first floor Spring Lane Building) followed by drinks in Courtyard. So come along and find out more about how to get involved in the UK’s biggest student news publication!

So what exactly is The Tab?

The Tab is a student news site with over six million monthly readers. As a student writer, your stories will be shared on The York Tab Facebook and Instagram pages, to a readership of thousands of students. The best articles are also shared across all of our pages and can reach readers all over the country.

We cover a wide range of stories at The York Tab. From breaking news such as York running out of accommodation and sending students to live in Hull or University of York Tories plan to host MP who has previously been pictured in blackface to fun features like Feeling old? Here are seven signs you’re a third year at York and Here is which York College all the 2022 Love Islanders would be in. So whether you’re an aspiring journalist, comedy writer, TikTok icon or just have a great knowledge of memes, we want you!

Why write for us?

Joining The York Tab is more than just writing articles. The Tab is a nationwide publication with a much wider readership than other York student papers and gives you an insight into how modern media works.

Stories written by The York Tab have been picked up by national publications including The BBCThe Daily Mail, and ITV, to name a few. The team also works with an Assistant Editor based at the Tab HQ in London. They provide training in the basics of reporting and quality advice on how to make your writing stand out that you won’t get anywhere else.

It’s also a great addition to any CV. Tab alumni frequently go on to work for famous publications all over the world, including VICE, BBC, The Times, and Vogue. Just this year, former Tab student writers started jobs at The Telegraph, The Sun, and Cosmopolitan, with a former York Tab Editor securing a job at The BBC!

Not only this, The Tab is a fun way to get a new hobby and make some friends. As well as weekly meetings, we also host fun socials.

How can I get involved?

If The York Tab sounds like your thing, it couldn’t be easier to get involved. Come along to our open meeting in Spring Lane next Tuesday 11th October to find out more about how we work! If you’re thinking of coming along, make sure to click going on our Facebook Event.

If you have any questions or can’t make the open meeting, message our Instagram or Facebook and we’ll get back to you. We can’t wait to see you!
