The York Tab is recruiting – Come write for us!

Be the first to break the biggest stories on campus

From York Uni sending students to live in Hull and a Fresher withdrawing after sending racist and sexist group chat messages, to a York student taking part in this year’s Bake off, The York Tab breaks the biggest news stories on campus.

So whether you want to place all the Love Islanders into a York College or investigate the best places to cry on campus, we want you to write for the York Tab.

Our first open meeting of the year will be at The Charles XII Pub in Heslington (five-minute walk from campus) at 7pm on Thursday 14th October.

The meeting is open to students of all years and subjects, no journalistic experience is required. Just come along and find out more about how to get involved in the UK’s biggest student news publication.

So what exactly is The Tab?

The Tab is a student news site with over six million monthly readers. As a student writer, your stories will be shared on The York Tab Facebook and Instagram pages, to a readership of thousands of students. The best articles are also shared across all of our pages and can reach readers all over the country.

Why write for us?

Joining The York Tab is more than just writing articles. The Tab is a nationwide publication with a much wider readership than other York student papers and gives you an insight into how modern media works.

Stories written by The York Tab have been picked up by national publications including The BBC, The Daily Mail, and ITV, to name a few. The team also works with an Assistant Editor based at Tab HQ in London. They provide training in the basics of reporting and quality advice on how to make your writing stand out that you won’t get anywhere else.

It’s a great addition to any CV. Tab alumni frequently go on to work for famous publications all over the world, including VICE, BBC, The Times, and Vogue. Just this year, former Tab student writers started jobs at The Telegraph, The Sun, and Cosmopolitan, with former York Tab Editor securing a job at The BBC!

Not only this, The Tab is a fun way to get a new hobby and make some friends! As well as weekly meetings, we also host fun socials.

How can I get involved?

If The York Tab sounds like your thing, it couldn’t be easier to get involved.

Come along to our open meeting at The Charles next Thursday 14th October. If you’re thinking of coming along, you can click going on our Facebook Event!

If you have any questions, need help finding The Charles, or can’t make the open meeting, message our Instagram, Facebook or our Editor @emilysmith__7 and we’ll get back to you!
