Hes West and Central Hall are now Grade II listed buildings

They have been listed by Historic England

The original Heslington West campus at the University of York has been listed as a Grade II building, as has the iconic spaceship shaped building Central Hall.

A Grade II classification means that a building is of special interest and that every effort should be made to preserve it.

This comes after Derwent College was listed as a Grade II building earlier this year.

Both Hes West and Central Hall made it on to Historic England's list of 23 remarkable places that were listed in 2018.

Hes West is described as "a high-quality post-war university landscape that fulfils the architects’ masterplan vision of creating a town in miniature with a pedestrianised environment," while Central Hall is described as " centrepiece of the University’s western campus."
