We asked the students of Manchester how they feel about Antwerp Mansion closing

Antwerp Mansion announced this weekend that they are being forced to close by Manchester City Council, and will shut down in one month. The legendary club has been a haven for students for years, and its closing feels like the end of an era. We spoke to the students of Manchester to find out how they felt about the news.

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

Bit gutted to be honest, I go there all the time.

How many times have you been?

Quite a few, we've arranged to go there loads now that it's closing.

Why do you think it's closing?

I'm guessing it's to do with drugs and that sort of thing?

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

Upset, it was one of the best clubs around.

How many times have you been?

Loads.

Why do you think it's closing?

It's an old building so probably something to do with that.

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

Bit sad, feels like the end of an era. I'm sad that my friends from home will never get to go, it's not like any other club.

How many times have you been?

About 5 or 6.

Why do you think it's closing?

I heard it's something to do with the council, maybe health and safety?

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

It's a shame, especially because it was so easy to get to. I suppose tickets will become really expensive now as well, because it's closing.

How many times have you been?

Loads. We're regulars.

Why do you think it's closing?

I thought it was unsafe, didn't something fall on someone's head? Or something to do with the fire escape?

Yeah, it's falling apart. I bet that's why – I broke the toilet there once, I opened the door and it fell off.

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

I was talking about this with my housemates – we were saying that we've kind of had our time at Antwerp. We're not really surprised.

How many times have you been?

I went A LOT in first year, a few times last semester. I stopped going so much because I found other clubs, but Antwerp is a completely unique experience though, it's kind of an institution.

Why do you think it's closing?

I read an MEN article about it being something to do with the license? The council are killing the rave scene though, they did it with Sankeys too. I bet they've wanted to shut it down for ages.

How do you feel about Antwerp closing?

I didn't go that much but I never had a bad night there.

How many times have you been?

I went way more in first year, not sure how many times exactly.

Why do you think it's closing?

I don't really know, it seems to be happening a lot – like with Sound Control. And then I heard the ceiling fell down – but that happened to Factory. It's a bit weird, really.
