Spring Sessions in the Station

Can’t wait for Summer? Well, Spring can be exciting too.

Revision isn’t going well. Not for me, because I’m writing this, and not for you because you’re reading it. Are you currently in the library, itching for the festival season to start so that you can break out into the daylight and feel the sun streaming down your face, the mud filling your Primark wellies, the pictures raking up on Instagram whilst the music of summer reaches out and gives you one big drug-fuelled hug? Well fear not, you don’t have to wait a moment longer. Well, you do for the sun and the spliff. But the music, oh no the music is already here in the form of Spring Station Sessions at St Pancras International.

Encased in that awe-inspiring piece of architectural genius, just down the road from our beloved Gower Street, will be six weeks of free live music. FREE live music. Unfortunately, we’ve already missed the a cappella set by The Futureheads, but fear not as this is just an example of the greatness that is to come. My ‘absolutely should not miss’ picks would have to be: The Wave Pictures on the 4th of April, The Shutes on the 11th, Shakka on the 18th, The Boxettes on the 26th , Alt-J on the 2nd of May and, of course, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly on the 1st of May. All of whom can be sampled on Spotify. Others to look out for include the laura-marling-esque Lucy Kitt, the brilliantly named Molotov Jukebox and Professor Penguin.

And if getting to experience some of the best new music for free isn’t appealing enough to you (ungrateful bugger), we have also been taunted with the prospect of “secret performances by household names”. Past surprises at Secret Sessions have included Guillemots, Editors and Razorlight, so who knows who could turn up? My money is on The Beatles.

So next time you’re crumbling under the pressure of procrastination, just give in, get up, and walk down to St Pancras International so we can get the festival season well and truly underway.
