It’s really important to be aware of the crime rates of the city you go to uni in. House burglaries, being mugged late and violence late at night are all serious concerns for students. The travel site OMIO has researched the crime rates for different UK cities with Russell Group unis.
The Russell Group unis known for their poshness and dullness – Durham, Exeter and Oxbridge – have some of the lowest crime rates. Durham has just 2,037 offences reported in 2023.
It won’t come as a shock that the Russell Group unis based in London – Imperial College London, King’s College London, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Queen Mary University of London and University College London (UCL) – have the highest crime rates. A deeply concerning 887,870 crimes were recorded in London in 2023.
So, here is the number of offences in 2023 for the cities where each Russell Group uni is:
