All the mortifyingly cringe things Katy Perry has done since her new single got annihilated

She’s now claiming her critically panned comeback is ‘satire’

| UPDATED

It’s safe to say that the long awaited return of Katy Perry to pop music has been an utter disaster. Woman’s World, Katy Perry’s first solo single in years, was meant to be a huge moment of celebration for pop fans as one of the 2010s biggest and best made her defiant return to the pop forefront. It’s gone down like a sack of spuds – thanks to a Dr Luke collaboration and a general distaste for a corny song that sounds like it was made in thirty seconds. Or, as someone aptly put it on TikTok, “It sounds like a song I’d make up on the spot and sing at my cat”. Since the new single release last week, Katy Perry has continued to rub people up the wrong way with a deeply cringe string of antics – so here’s everything you missed over the weekend.

After the backlash, Katy Perry claims new single Woman’s World is actually satire

Right. I don’t think good satire needs a disclaimer, personally – but let’s give her the benefit of the doubt. In a new video seemingly shot on set for the Woman’s World video, Katy Perry explains that Woman’s World is allegedly purposely on the nose and naff.

Katy says “Girlboss shit, you can do it, you go girl, you were born to shine. We’re kind of just having fun, being a bit sarcastic with it. It’s very slapstick. Very on the nose. With this set, it’s like ‘ooh we’re not about the male gaze but we really are about the male gaze.’ We’re overplaying it. Then we’re about to get smashed – which is a reset for me and a reset for my idea of feminine divine. It’s a whole different world we go to after this.”

She randomly supported England in the Euros and posted the wrong flag

Not the union flag instead of the England one. Why was she getting involved anyway? And pissing off Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the process.

Woman’s World well and truly flopped

On just the second day of Woman’s World being out, it dropped out of the 200 top songs on Spotify Global – a woeful stat for an artist as famous as Katy Perry.

Katy Perry just released some more versions to boost sales and the titles are corny as hell
