This is what your favourite OG Musical.ly stars have been up to since the app was deleted
Baby Ariel is 22, I’m going to be sick
From the years 2014 to 2018, Musical.ly became a staple for many of us. Musical.ly had an array of different creators, way before anyone knew of the D’Amelio sisters or Addison Rae, however not all of them reached the same heights as TikTokers have done today. The most popular Musical.ly creators have gone on to become Disney stars or even more high profile models than they once were, fours years on since the app was deleted. However, due to just how popular TikTok creators are now, only those truly loyal to them are aware on the updates of their careers. So while you’re busy reminiscing while watching Musical.ly compilations on YouTube, this is what your favourite OG Musical.ly stars have been up to since the app was deleted:
Baby Ariel was arguably one of the biggest names on Musical.ly when the app first launched and was just 14 years old when she rose to fame. Over the years, Ariel Martin grew an army of fans and collated over 10 million followers on Instagram. During her Musical.ly career, Ariel began releasing music and no one should forget her iconic bop ‘Aww’. In 2017, Ariel was named one of the top entertainment influencers by Forbes and that saw her career go from strength to strength. As Musical.ly was deleted, Ariel went on to star in a mini-series called Baby Doll Records, and in 2019 starred in Bixler High Private Eye, a nickelodeon film. Ariel finally got her big Disney Channel break when it was announced she would feature in the Zombies 2 movie as Wynter.
Ariel still uploads to her YouTube channel regularly, sharing vlogs and life updates. Her Instagram is a massive vibe and is a lot less cringe than what it was eight years ago. In September 2022, she announced she would be starring in Suncoast, alongside Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson.
Arii, or maybe better known as TheyLoveArii on Musical.ly rose to fame alongside Baby Ariel due to them both being childhood friends. Arii wasn’t as big as Ariel, and currently has 2.7 million followers on Instagram. She initially joined Musical.ly in 2015 and from there launched her own nail polish line. In 2019, Arii went on to launch her own fashion brand but it pretty much flopped. In an Instagram post, Ari told her followers the clothing company she was working with had rules around the first of her sales, which included selling at least 36 t-shirts from her clothing line. But, no one bought any so she didn’t move forward.
Nowadays, Ari hosts her own podcast called Stoopid Smacked, where she invites her friends along “to talk about everything and anything while voicing their opinions”. Ari also has an OnlyFans account and her Instagram is a huge vibe.
Loren Gray was already a fairly established model before joining Musical.ly and was one of the most followed on the app. Loren currently has 23.7 million followers on Instagram and is extremely popular on TikTok, being the 17th most followed person on TikTok. As well as being a model, Loren also moved into the music industry and was signed to Virgin and Capitol Records until she went independent in February 2021.
In 2020, Loren launched her own jewellery brand called &always. The Instagram account for her business has over 27,000 followers, selling “everyday jewellery essentials”. It was reported by Forbes in August 2020, that Loren Gray earned $2.4 million in 2019 from her sponsorships deals and merch. She became the fourth highest-earning TikTok star. Loren attends all events imaginable, and was even invited to the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Malu Trevejo was a Muser who was often embroiled in some kind of drama. The now 20-year-old rose to fame on the app and is now a singer as well as a content creator. In 2017, Malu released her debut single Luna Llena and continues to release music and has accumulated over 100 million views on her YouTube channel. Malu currently has 11.4 million followers on Instagram and an impressive 25.2. million on TikTok.
Back in 2021, Malu and Central Cee were rumoured to be dating after she shared a photo of the two of them. However, Malu soon squashed the rumours and said: “Can’t no rapper, singer, actor say they hit! I told you I’ll get you to a million”. Savage. Malu’s Instagram is a huge vibe and I’m still in awe of her seven years later.
Juwany Roman, best known as Flamingeos was the Musical.ly star everyone had a crush on. Roman was a huge name on Musical.ly and collaborated with multiple social media stars also on the app. In 2016, Geo and fellow social media star Loren Gray were in a relationship but it was short lived as they broke up after only a few months together. Nowadays, Geo is still on social media and has over two million followers on TikTok and 900,000 followers on Instagram.
He has mainly been travelling the world and has shared on his Instagram all the stunning locations he has visited. Some of his travels include Costa Rica, New York City and Miami.
Mario Selman was another huge star on Musical.ly and was close friends with Baby Ariel and Arii. On the Musical.ly app, Mario earned over three million fans and now has over four million followers on TikTok. Mario currently boasts just under two million followers on Instagram, with his account being the most aesthetically pleasing thing to grace the app. In 2018, Mario launched his own Facebook series called The Early Early Show where he would interview various celebrities but now travels the world and often uploads to his YouTube channel.
Mario is good friends with TikTok star Larray and also hosts a vodcast called SRSLY. The weekly vodcast features Mario and a new guest where they “discuss everything from drama amongst his friend group to his take on pop culture events.” Mario also starred on the Netflix series The Floor is Lava.
Zach Clayton, or as he was known on Musical.ly BruhitsZach, was a huge social media personality. Zach currently has over six million followers on TikTok and two million on Instagram. Zach became a regular YouNow broadcast and even won a Shorty Award for it. Zach went on to release music over 2016 and 2017 and dropped several singles including Face to Face, Odd Petals and Off White, under the stage name BadZach.
Nowadays, Zach still uploads to his YouTube channel, often collaborating with friends from his Musical.ly days, and he also has an OnlyFans. Zach was dating fellow social media star Jordyn Jones, but they seem to have ended things as she is now in a new relationship. During his Musical.ly days, Zach dates Baby Ariel in 2016 and Daniella Perkins in 2017.
Lisa and Lena
Twins Lisa and Lena started off their career on Musical.ly in 2015 and then later gained a huge following on TikTok and became the most followed account on the app. In 2016, the twins launched their own music brand and in 2017 they released their first single. They both regularly upload to their YouTube channel and also share fun reels on their shared Instagram account, which has over 18 million followers.
Lena is signed with a modelling agency and her Instagram is largely a photography account, has has photographed the likes of Robbie Williams, Tate McRae and Billie Eilish. Lisa is engaged and is preparing to get married. In an Instagram post, Lisa said: “I will marry the love of my life. But why? Marriage is a big gift for me. Finding the one who I’m spending the rest of my life with. Choosing the one and making it clear in front of my whole family, friends and God. It has always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl.”
Jacob Sartorius became a living meme on Musical.ly, whether it was because of his lip syncing videos or the evil song Sweatshirt. Jacob has released a fair few songs since 2016 and his most recent is called Temporary Tattoo, however it doesn’t seem to have done so well. In 2018, Jacob famously dated Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown for about year before calling things off.
Jacob has also moved to the acting world and starred in The Loneliest Boy in the World in August 2022. Jacob’s Instagram gives off the vibe of Lil Huddy wannabe but you’ve got to respect it. Sartorius currently has 11 million followers on Instagram.
Kristen Hancher was a triple threat like no other. She is a dancer, actress and singer and Musical.ly gave her the platform to share funny skits and videos and she gained over 20 million followers on the app. Kristen has just under five million followers on Instagram and in 2020 she became the eleventh most followed person on TikTok.
Kristen has starred in a number of TV shows since 2017 including Misshaps, Troubled Youth and The Pain of Painting. She now travels the world and has visited some very exciting locations including Paris, Mykonos and Santorini. Similar to some of her fellow Musical.ly stars, Kristen has an OnlyFans account.
