These are the top 10 most popular unis right now, according to Google Trends

A-Level results day 2022 has finally arrived, and amid the prosecco popping and occasional tears, there’s a whole lot of people googling the most popular universities in the UK. Whether it’s to research the university they secured a place at or to find the number for Clearing in a rushed panic. But with more than 100 universities in the UK, which institution is the most popular for this year’s Freshers?

Is it the traditional universities like Oxford and Cambridge? Or the vibey fun ones you know you’re gonna have a good time at like Manchester and Bristol? Or is it a totally rogue one know one has ever heard of? We’ve dug through Google Trends to find the most popular universities everyone is searching for this results day, and the top one may surprise you.

These are the top 10 most popular universities in the UK today:

1. Aston University

The most popular university in the UK right now according to Google Trends is Aston University with searches up by 400 per cent in the last 24 hours.

Aston is based in Birmingham and has plenty of courses available in Clearing right now including psychology, maths, economics and biochemistry.

2. University of Exeter

Next up is the Russell Group uni the University of Exeter with searches up by 350 per cent in the last 24 hours.

The University of Exeter is based in Devon and has alumni including Dolly Alderton, Will Young and The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby. No wonder its so popular.

3. Cardiff University

Another Russell Group university, Cardiff University, is one of the most popular universities today with searches for clearing at the university up by 350 per cent.

Cardiff currently has around 250 courses available for Clearing places including astrophysics, chemistry, French and sociology.

4. City University of London

Next up is City University of London which has increased searches of 350 per cent in the last 24 hours.

City is known for its journalism courses but there’s also plenty of other courses in Clearing including computer science, criminology, and law.

5. University of Bath

The University of Bath is the fifth most googled university in the UK right now, with searches for the university up by 300 per cent.

Bath has a large number of notable sports alumni including some Olympic medallists.

6. Queen Mary University of London

Another popular university today is Queen Mary University of London which has searches up by 300 per cent.

There are still many places available on their courses including drama, English, and geography amongst many others.

7. Keele University

Next is Keele University based in Staffordshire with searches for the university’s clearing up by 300 per cent.

Right now they have spaces in their Clearing for courses including biology, education and film studies.

Russell Group university the University of Birmingham is firmly in the top 10 of most popular universities in the UK today, with searches for the institution increasing by 300 per cent in the last day.

Birmingham has a number of famous alumni including two UK prime ministers, a few Noble Prize winners and Game of Thrones’s Isaac Hampstead-Wright. So you’re in very good company if you secured a place at Birmingham.

Coventry University is another popular university everyone is googling today with searches up by 300 per cent.

There are currently plenty of Clearing vacancies at Coventry including animation, fashion, graphic design and sport and exercise science.

Rounding off the top 10 most popular universities according to Google Trends is Leicester University with searches for the uni increasing by 300 per cent in the last day.

Leicester University has a number of spaces available for courses as part of Clearing including geology, nursing and natural sciences.
