The families of Love Islanders have spoken against hate they’re getting on social media

Luca’s family shared a message from a troll calling him a ‘creepy, scary, alarming psychopath’

Those in charge of the current Love Island contestants social media pages have released a joint statement in response to the trolling they have been receiving on social media. The admins of the pages have been receiving floods of vile DMs on Instagram and Twitter while their loved ones have been on Love Island. Dumped Islander Amber Beckford’s family made the decision to delete her Twitter page before she returned home to protect her from the hate messages she received.

In a joint statement posted on the all the current Islander’s Instagrams, the admins said: “Love Island is an interactive show where opinions, discussion and debate are welcome in equal measure to displays of support, love and kindness. Although we have never met, we stand together today united against the hate messages and insults that some viewers seem to think is acceptable to throw at our friends, sons, daughters and family members.

“Your hate has no place on our pages or in society in general. This post is being shared across contestants social media pages at the same time and Love Island fan related pages as a sign of unity and denouncement of hate.”

The official Love Island account posted a story to Instagram that said: “We do not tolerate trolling or abuse of any sort and we continue to offer support to the Islanders and their families and friends in tackling social media negativity.”

Luca Bish’s family did not repost the joint statement but did share a string of abusive messages the Islander had been receiving. In an Instagram story, they said: “Please please please stop messaging abuse. Luca can’t even see it. The people that love him most can. I’ve just been sick from crying so much at the death threats (an hour on from that last story). How can people be so inhumane.”

The admin for Luca’s Instagram shared eight screenshots of messages they had received on Instagram and said: “The hardest night of my entire life. This is happening every second. Just so beyond grateful Luca isn’t here to read these.”

One of the messages said: “Death to you Luca you disgusting narcissistic piece of sh*t”. Another message said: “Kill yourself” and “You need therapy you creepy, scary, alarming psychopath.”

Paige Thorne’s family have also taken action against the hate she has been getting while in the villa. In an Instagram story, they said: “As some of you have already noticed, unless Paige follows you, you’re now unable to comment/message/tag her in anything. This is only for a few days to ride the hate train. It’s not fair for Paige, myself or her family and friends to read so best to block it out all together.”
