The Tinder Swindler is all about Shimon Hayut

The Tinder Swindler tells the jaw-dropping story of a prolific conman who posed as a billionaire playboy on Tinder, and the women who set out to bring him down. It’s a documentary film, with a running time of 113 minutes, and is all about Israeli fraudster, Shimon Hayut.

The conman went by the name Simon Leviev – claiming he was the son of billionaire Russian-Israeli diamond mogul, Lev Leviev. The 31-year-old used the dating app Tinder to con women out of their life savings, calling himself the “Prince of Diamonds”. He lured the women to open up huge lines of credit which he would use to fund his lavish and luxury lifestyle, saying he needed the cash as threats had been made against him and his life depended on it. He would then disappear. He legally changed his name and hired staff, including assistants and a bodyguard, to make his story seem legit.

In reality, it was Shimon Hayut, who has an already convicted conman. He had previously served two years in Finnish prison for defrauding several women in order to fund his private jets, luxury holidays and love of Ferraris. Shimon would impress the women he met on the app with presents and trips away, using the money he had conned from other women.

The Netflix synopsis reads: “Swipe, swipe, swipe… It’s not easy to find love online, so when Cecilie matches with a handsome billionaire playboy, she can’t quite believe it when he turns out to be the man of her dreams. But dreams aren’t reality and by the time she discovers this international businessman isn’t who he says he is, it’s too late. He’s taken her for everything. Where this fairytale ends, a revenge thriller begins. Cecilie discovers his other targets and once they band together, they’re victims no more: THE TINDER SWINDLER meets his match. From the producers of ‘The Imposter’ and ‘Don’t F**k with Cats’, this riveting feature documentary follows as they uncover his true identity and fight to bring him to justice.”
