Stay Close is the wild psychological Netflix thriller we’re about to be hooked on this month

It’s from the writer of The Stranger and Safe

This month you better be ready for another psychological thriller to become obsessed with, because Netflix is about to drop Stay Close. The series comes from the writer behind other incredible thrillers The Stranger and Safe, and it looks just as good.

The show will tell the story of four people living seemingly comfortable lives whilst each concealing dark secrets that even those closest to them would never suspect. It’s based on a book where the story is set in the US, but the Netflix series will be based in the UK, and sees Richard Armitage (Adam Price from The Stranger) back in the cast. There will be eight episodes to the thriller series, and Stay Close is set to be released on Netflix on December 31st. Here’s everything you need to know.

Stay Close is a thriller series all about people concealing dark secrets from those closest to them

Stay Close questions how much you really know someone. Four people each conceal dark secrets from those closest to them, and the series follows Megan, a working mother of three, Ray, a once-promising documentary photographer, Broome, a detective unable to let go of a missing person’s cold case, and Lorraine, an old friend of Megan’s. As the past comes back to haunt them, threatening to ruin their lives and the lives of those around them, what will be their next move?

Megan has settled down with the kids after a once wild life. She’s got a perfect husband and a seemingly idyllic family. Ray is a once promising documentary photographer, who is now stuck in a dead-end job pandering to celebrity obsessed rich kids and Broome is a detective who’s unable to let go of a missing person’s cold case. Lorraine is an old friend from Megan’s past, who delivers some shocking news which will impact all three characters.

Stay Close is adapted from the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben. Harlan Coben has had a number of his novels adapted for Netflix, including The Stranger, The Woods and Safe. He has previously told The Tab Netflix is working on bringing all of his books to screen in a five-year deal. Coben is also an executive producer for the latest adaption.

The show has a pretty star-studded cast – with Richard Armitage, a now Harlan Coben adaptation staple, playing Ray, Cush Jumbo plays Megan, James Nesbitt plays Michael Broome and Sarah Parish plays Lorraine. The series also stars Jo Joyner (Tanya from EastEnders) and Eddie Izzard.
