Four cast members in The Lizzie Borden Story have appeared in Monster seasons before

As soon as Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story began, we all recognised Andrew Borden. He was played by Charlie Hunnam, who previously portrayed Ed Gein, in the last season of the anthology. But, he’s not the only Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story cast member who isn’t new to the show. Four people who had roles in the new episodes have already played other characters previously.

Here’s a rundown of them all. How many did you spot? 

Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden and Ed Gein

After playing the title role of Ed Gein in season three of the show, Charlie Hunnam is back as Andrew Borden, Lizzie Borden’s father. Andrew Borden is the coffin-making, affair-having father of Lizzie, who it’s shown share a tough relationship. By all intents and purposes, he too is portrayed as a bit of a monster himself. 

The creators of the show have basically said they didn’t want to say goodbye to Charlie Hunnam (same), so had to have him back. Charlie explained it was a quick yes from him, as he thought the role of Andrew Borden would offer him a lot of creative freedom. 

Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan and Ilse Koch

Vicky Krieps played maid Bridget Sullivan in The Lizzie Borden Story, and she also played alleged serial killer Countess Báthory, who Lizzie and Bridget read stories about. But, these two characters aren’t the only time she’s been in Monster.

Vicky Krieps also played the role of Ilse Koch in The Ed Gein Story. That season showed snippets of the horror from Nazi Germany, focusing on the war criminal. Adeline Watkins, Ed Gein’s girlfriend, is shown as having introduced him to the story of Ilse Koch.

Ari Graynor as Michele Gillen and Leslie Abramson

In the Lizzie Borden Story, Ari Graynor played Michele Gillen, a journalist who interviewed Aileen Wuornos in prison. She also played Erik Menendez’s hot shot lawyer in The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. 

Leslie Abramson was “considered to be the most brilliant Los Angeles defence lawyer for death-row cases.” This was said of her in 1990, the same year Lyle and Erik Menendez were arrested for murder and she was set to defend the latter in court.

Joey Pollari as John Morse and Anthony Perkins

Joey Pollari played John Morse in The Lizzie Borden Story. John Morse was Lizzie Borden’s uncle, the brother of her birth mother. He spent a night at the Borden house, right before the murders took place. 

You might have recognised him as he also played Anthony Perkins in The Ed Gein Story. Anthony Perkins was an actor, most known for portraying the killer Norman Bates in the iconic Alfred Hitchcock film, a role which defined his career.
