MAFS UK’s Joe says he’s been ‘torn to pieces’ as he reflects on his time in the experiment

‘Angry, conflicted and admittedly feeling sorry for myself at times’

After officially walking away from MAFS UK 2025, Joe Wood has finally reflected on his experience on the show, and it’s clear the process has taken a toll.

The 31-year-old groom hasn’t been very vocal about his MAFS experience on social media, but he recently broke his silence with a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on everything that’s happened. Joe left the show earlier in the series after the death of his grandfather, and after returning for a brief period, he officially left the experiment and his marriage to Maeve before the retreat dinner party.

While people have speculated about how things got so out of hand, Joe explained that he needed to take time for himself and process everything away from the cameras.

In his Instagram post titled Perspective, Joe wrote, “WELL… what a whirlwind. Not sure whether I’ve wanted to cry or laugh. I’ve been torn to pieces whether I’ve wanted to defend myself this week. Angry, conflicted and admittedly feeling sorry for myself at times.”

He went on to say that stepping back and spending time with his loved ones helped him regain clarity. “However, I’ve taken the time for myself, done the things I love with the people that I care about. And it’s just put the whole thing into perspective,” he said.

Joe also addressed the backlash and speculation surrounding his time on MAFS UK. He made it clear he’s not interested in engaging with the negativity. “If people want to waste their energy on something that they have no context or accurate details about, that’s entirely up to them,” he wrote. “The people around me know who I am, what I stand for and what I’ve been through. And that’s all that counts.”

Reflecting on his journey, Joe acknowledged his mistakes but said he’s focused on growth and self-respect. “I’ve made many mistakes in my life, and I’m sure I will make more. However, if I can look at myself in the mirror every day and be proud of what I see and what I’ve become, then the outside noise is irrelevant.”

Joe had previously revealed how hard the experience was after losing his grandfather during filming. He said he “really lost himself” at the time and apologised for upsetting people. He added that family “was and always will be” his top priority.
