MAFS UK 2025 bride Maeve Mathieson’s decision to stay wasn’t as shocking as Divarni’s, but it was still a bit disappointing, and now she has finally revealed why she chose to remain in the experiment, even while her husband Joe Wood was nowhere to be seen.

As the experiment has reached its midpoint, tensions have been running high among the couples. Joe had to step away for a while due to the sad passing of his grandfather. This left Maeve alone at dinner parties, commitment ceremonies and the couples’ retreat. While she understood why he had to go, being left on her own during filming was clearly incredibly hard for her. It tested her patience, emotions, and resolve.

So, why did Maeve decide to stay in the experiment?

In a candid Instagram Q&A, Maeve opened up about what kept her going. Posting a pic of herself with her friends Keye and Davide, she said, “My little love bugs kept me going. You don’t understand how hard this experiment is. You would normally ring your friends for advice but instead you have to make bonds with new friends. And this is something I will forever be grateful for. The love and support I received every minute of every day from my squad was unbelievable.”

She also revealed exactly why she stayed. Obviously, she didn’t know what happened in the conversation between Joe and Ashley, nor that it had all been captured on camera. “I don’t know if it’s been shown, but I actually did have a conversation on camera with Ashley about what Joe said and he told me it was a private conversation. However, he did fail to mention there were cameras there! So if I knew that, I wouldn’t have stayed. It’s all just a bit muggy for me.”

While part of Maeve’s decision to stay in MAFS came from not knowing the full context of the conversation, it was also about the friendships and support she built during the experiment. Even when Joe wasn’t around, her squad kept her grounded.
