Emotional support cats to no running: The wacky park rules keeping Disney adults in check
Who on earth is bringing a cat on a lead to Disney?
Disney adults make out that the parks are the best place on earth, where every food item is upwards of $10 and a 90 minute queue for a selfie with Goofy is a sign of a good day. But adults and children both have to follow different rules to enter the park and stay without getting kicked out. Some of the rules are pretty self explanatory, like not carrying firearms in the parks. I mean, that sounds kind of obvious. If you’re rocking up to Disney with a concealed weapon, I think you’ve got bigger issues at hand.
These are all the wacky Disney park rules adults have to follow.
1. Anyone over 12 years old is banned from wearing fancy dress
This one initially confused me because I thought Disney adults were all about dressing up – what’s the point in going to see Winnie the Pooh if you can’t wear your giant bear suit? Well, adults aren’t allowed to dress up as characters in parks, except on special occasions. It makes sense when you think about it, as children often mistake regular people for the actual Disney characters and that can lead to all kinds of chaos. One Disney adult who dressed up as Princess Tiana was actually removed because of her costume, diving opinion among Disney fans and sympathisers alike.
This also includes masks. I don’t know who’s ID’ing 13-year-olds dressed as Mickey Mouse at the door but you know.
2. You can bring an emotional support CAT – as long as it’s on a lead…?
@valsdisneydiaries disney actually has cats on property!! the cats technically aren’t “pets” but they are here to keep the mice under control…. iconic lol. i grew up seeing them by the hotels walking around by the pool on hot days but it wasn’t until a few months ago i noticed this cutie!! (ngl im unsure if his name is romeo that’s what i was told by another guest a few months back) ever since ive seen him i pay him a little visit (from a distance) in dca 🥰💗 • • • #disney #disneyland #catsoftiktok #cats #catsofdisney #disneycats #disneyparks #disneytips #disneytipsandtricks #olebrandselect #fypシ #creatorsearchinsights #disneycontentcreator #fyp

Of course they allow emotional support cats. Dogs are also allowed, but Disney parks also allow cats as long as they’re “always be kept on a lead” and remain under the care of the owner. Disney only allows cats and dogs as emotional support pets, so there’s no chance you can sneak a hamster or fish in there. The chaos of bringing a cat to a theme park honestly baffles me, but I can’t say I’d be shocked to see one there. I don’t think anything would shock me.
Apparently some parks have “pet” cats which just live on site to keep the mice down. Sounds like a recipe for disaster if these cats cross paths.
3. You’re not allowed to run
How on earth are they policing this one? It’s giving secondary school corridor. A running ban in an outdoor theme park is wild to me – if I don’t have control over my own legs, what do I even have left? Wowed.
4. You’ll also get told off for taking photos with flash on
Photos snapped in attractions and shows have to be without flash. At least you’ve got free will outside, as long as you don’t run!
5. Clothes that drag on the ground are also banned…
There are STRICT Disney park rules on clothing, way beyond the no fancy dress rule. Disney doesn’t allow clothes that “offend, shock or scare children and a family-orientated public” or any items that drag on the floor. Accessories are also limited, meaning sticks, capes and any other eccentric garment (fancy dress or not) needs to stay at home.
6. You can’t even take in a selfie stick

Disney adults are exactly the kind of people I imagine carry selfie sticks everywhere – or wish they could. You can’t bring large tripods into Disney parks, which I get, but selfie sticks are also prohibited, which seems kind of extra. People are getting pretty inventive as a result.
