‘Main character syndrome’: Disney adult divides opinion after being removed for fancy dress
‘This is the ONE BIGGEST rules. Like what.’
A video of a woman being removed from the theme park has sparked conversations about Disney’s costume policies and the sometimes intense world of crazed Disney adults.
TikTok user @utterly_jewlz was “escorted” from Disneyland Paris after dressing up as Tiana from the Disney movie The princess and the Frog.
A Disney employee has since weighed in on the drama, explaining the kind of obvious reasons why adults aren’t allowed to impersonate characters in the parks.
Guests over the age of 12 aren’t allowed to wear full character costumes at Disneyland to avoid confusion among children who expect to see official Disney cast members.. It’s a policy designed to ensure a safe experience for children and is pretty self explanatory.
Whilst most park visitors understand the rationale behind Disney’s strict rules, this woman took glam a step too far and looked so like Princess Tiana, that she was actually removed from the park.
Writing on TikTok, she said: “Flashback to last year at Disney when I dressed up as princess Tiana and got escorted off the premises.”

The incident sparked mixed responses, with some viewers praising her outfit and likeliness to Princess Tiana, writing: “They were mad you did it better.”
Others explained why it was a problem, writing: “If you go into a business wearing a uniform that you’re not actually employed at but acting as if you are… yeah, you’ll be escorted out.”
Another user, Austin, commented: “The video she posted ironically shows exactly why this rule exists. Now all of those kids they passed saw a princess doing something that Disney wouldn’t want them to be seen doing.”

A Disney employee has weighed in on the debate too, describing why adults are only allowed in the park wearing fancy dress on certain occasions, like Halloween.
Tyson stitched the original video, where he outlined the “regiment of explicit things” that Disney employees can and cannot do. Guests do not have to adhere to these rules and so can be mistaken for staff members, whilst doing prohibited things that guests are allowed to do, like drinking or smoking.
Tyson said: “When you look this good, kids and even parents aer going to believe that you’re the real deal. And someone with bad intentions can use that to their advantage for monetary gain or something a lot worse.”

Comments are starkly different on each video, but a reoccurring question asks how she got into the park in fancy dress, having to pass security on the way in. Many are confused how the woman didn’t know this rule, with it bring “one of the biggest rules” the park has.
One user, Beltyra, wrote: “She definitely knew what she was doing and why. Main character syndrome.”
Another wrote: “This is why Disney bounding was created.”
Either way, it can be viewed as admiration or obsession, depending on how you look at it.
