Police said in a statement: “At around 22:19hrs on Saturday, 2 August, officers on duty at Wembley Stadium for the Oasis concert responded alongside venue medics and the London Ambulance Service to reports that a person had been injured. A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
Since then, witnesses have described the awful moment they saw the fall, and then realised what had happened. “I was right there,” one person said on an Oasis Facebook fan group. “It was horrific.”
One woman said the man fell into the block she was in, and called what happened “awful”. She added that her friend’s daughter tried to help by performing CPR “until the paramedics arrived”. She wrote: “It happened about [five] mins before the end of the gig, it was awful… thinking of his family and friends and everyone that witnessed it.”
