Five students are missing following the tragic Air India plane crash.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad just after 1:38pm, local time. According to India’s Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), between 50 and 60 medicine students have been taken to hospital. At least two are in the intensive care unit. Five students are missing. FAIMA says some relatives of doctors are also missing.
A local politician called Darshna Vaghela told reporters that several doctors were helped out of their accommodation. She said: “I was in my office nearby when the plane crashed and there was a loud thud. We rescued many doctors from their flats.”

A police officer told reporters: “The building on which it has crashed is a doctors’ hostel… We have cleared almost 70 per cent to 80 per cent of the area and will clear the rest soon.”
242 people were on board the plane. So far, 204 bodies have been recovered. One British man has reportedly survived the crash. We don’t know how many of the dead were passengers on the plane, or how many were on the ground as the plane crashed.
