Loughborough students vote to leave the NUS

The Board of Trustees will now decide LSU’s fate

Voting for the NUS referendum took place between Thursday at 9am-Friday at 4pm.

The votes have now been counted and revealed.

In a referendum that’s split the executive team and led to bickering between campaign groups, Loughborough Students have voted to leave the NUS after a week of official campaigning from both sides.

54.3% of voters voted to leave, while 41.3% voted to remain with the rest abstaining.

Announced earlier, Cambridge have voted to remain affiliated to the NUS. Over 6,000 Cambridge students voted in their referendum.

There were only 2162  votes to leave the NUS. As the quorum of 4,000 votes was not met, the decision regarding LSU’s future membership will ultimately rest with the Board of Trustees.

The Board will announce their final decision on June 7th.
