Relentless Reckless defends ban from union after ‘clumsy’ incident

Ed has been accused of slapping a girl

Campus has been alight recently with the beginning of Exec Elections.

They are in full swing with this year’s crop of BNOCs vying once again for the role of union Executive.

After the controversy at the Bubble Debate, Presidential candidate Ed ‘Relentless’ Reckless has defended his ban from the union for apparently slapping a girl.

At last night’s Bubble Debate, Ed described an audience member’s accusation as an “embellishment”.

The Epinal wanted to sit down with Ed to give him the chance to further explain his actions and question his suitability for the role of union President of Loughborough SU.

George: Can you explain the events of the evening in question that led to the union ban?

Ed: I was involved in an incident with a girl, there was no malicious intent, whatsoever. I was in an intoxicated state due to which I was clumsy and heavy handed, and following which I was removed from the venue, and subsequently banned.

G: Ok, thank you. Can you explain why you behaved that way, why you did it?

Ed: I was in an intoxicated state as I’ve already said, I was clumsy and heavy handed. Very out of character.

G: Do you have anything to say to those involved in the evening’s events?

Ed: Since the evening’s events, since the subsequent ban, I have taken all possible and through all appropriate channels and possible channels, to apologise to all involved, and I would like to now reiterate these sincerest apologies to all involved and the desire to do so in person.

G: Can you clarify if you have taken action to contact the individual in question?

Ed: As I have just said, I have gone through every possible channel, through the union, that allows me to send out my apologies, and I have done.

G: Do you think the ban has affected your campaign significantly?

Ed: I don’t think the ban has affected it, at all. If anything, it has motivated myself and my campaign team to campaign harder, longer, as many of you will have seen. We have a fantastic social media presence. I am everywhere throughout the university, and the town. We still have a strong presence on union nights out. I am still there, in the queue, showing that I am still trying my absolute hardest to get my personal character and experience and suitability for the role across to the students.

G: What do you have to say in response to people that suggest the behaviour was ill-fitting of a potential union President?

I think that if you look at any of my experience… in my four years at Loughborough I have held many positions of responsibility.

I have been a hall Rag Rep, and a Hall Chair, during which I showed my personal characteristics to be approachable, personable, a fantastic leader and team worker, leading my committee at the time to the Committee of the Year Award and myself receiving personally the Hall Chair of the Year Award, something which one does not get lightly.

I have held more responsibilities within the union, including a Hall Students Federation Vice President, working closely with halls and with the Executive and with the whole union through all the ranges of sections. This experience has put me in good stead to lead the union today should I get elected and something that I firmly believe I am still the most suitable candidate, for the job.

G: Ok, thank you very much.

End of interview.
