This is what really goes down behind the scenes at the MAFS Australia commitment ceremonies

The Married at First Sight Australia commitment ceremonies are the pinnacle of chaos on the show, with every ceremony having some kind of drama go down. The ceremonies are for couples to share developments in their relationship with the experts but in recent seasons it has just been for brides and grooms to poke holes in others’ relationships.

Former MAFS Australia cast members have revealed all the behind the scenes drama and production that goes into the commitment ceremonies as we know it.

Here’s what filming for the MAFS Australia commitment ceremonies are really like.

It can be ’emotionally’ exhausting

Season 10 MAFS Australia groom Josh White told The Tab the commitment ceremonies can “take a lot of you”.

“I must say, being in it briefly and then coming back at the end for the reunion, I don’t know how the other cast went the whole season,” he began.

“It takes a lot out of you, physically and mentally to be there that long. When they would finish in the early AM, you go back and fall in a heap from exhaustion.”

Couples have to send pictures of what they’re wearing to producers

In order to make sure they look their very best on camera, couples have to get a seal of approval on their outfits from producers beforehand.

Former MAFS Australia groom Nasser Sultan spilled the behind the scenes tea to WHO about their outfit choices ahead of the commitment ceremonies.

“We each have to send photos of our outfits to producers prior to the dinner parties and commitment ceremonies to make sure they like them and that they work on camera,” he explained.

The couples sit on the couch for around 30 to 40 minutes

Josh White told The Tab each couple takes around 30 to 40 minutes on the couch and said it can be a “long night” at the start of the season with so many couples.

Season nine groom Al Perkins spoke with Yahoo Australia and said although they can take 40 minutes, some can take up to one hour.

“Couples sit on the couch [during] the commitment ceremony for probably averaging 40 minutes per couple, sometimes they go to about an hour. But all you see if five to 10 minutes each,” he said.

“You’re there for a really really long time. Sometimes they don’t finish commitment ceremonies until like 3 am, so you’re really wrecked afterwards.”

He continued to say couples get a lie in after long evenings like the commitment ceremonies. He said: “They really look after you, and it’s not just us couples who stay up. It’s the whole production, cameraman, everyone.”

Producers give advice to the cast on what to say

Former MAFS Australia bride Jessika Power has claimed producers who give her advice on what to say during the commitment ceremonies. “They wouldn’t tell me what to say but they would give me ideas,” she said. “I couldn’t think of reasons to keep Mick there.”

Apparently producers check the stay and leave cards before the ceremony

An insider claimed to Woman’s Day the producers check all the stay and leave cards before the commitment ceremony to ensure it aligns with the storyline. Yikes!
