Cuba and Ryan’s very different explanations for their bewildering break-up on Love Is Blind

Ryan felt ‘resistance in his body’, apparently

The romance between Cuba Riggs and Ryan Roberts left many Love Is Blind UK viewers with questions. What is a “sound journey”? Have they gone off each other all of a sudden? Who on earth eats mangos that way? Both Cuba and Ryan have attempted to explain what was going on in the build-up to their break-up on Love Is Blind, but their accounts don’t really align. Here’s what they’ve said. I’m intrigued.

Ryan thought the bubble had ‘burst’ three times before the break-up

According to Ryan, the relationship began to go stale in the lead-up to their wedding. He explained on his Instagram: “I knew something [was not] right. I think anyone can agree, as you are getting closer to the day of your wedding, you should be getting more and more and more excited, and not feelings more and more and more resistance, when it’s hard to figure out why.”

He did also acknowledge: “It must have been super hard for Cuba to have had me away for so much of the experiment. Work obligations that were actually arranged before I went on, and a family bereavement, which… you can’t help those timings. So, it was a very sticky situation for both of us.”

Ryan also told his version of events to the Radio Times. Apparently, all those work trips gave him “a different perspective on [his] life”.

“And then when I would come back, I found it harder to transition back into the bubble, and I wasn’t able to give in either direction … and the longer that went on, the more I could feel resistance in my body, which is a shame, you know?”

Ryan says he dumped Cuba in order to “honour” his feelings.

“It is true that I did leave,” he said on TikTok, “and I did right by how I was feeling. And I appreciate that is very tough at the time, and afterwards for Cuba as well. But, you have to honour what’s going on for yourself and your circumstances at the same time, and your obligations.”

To Cuba, the break-up came as ‘a shock’

According to Cuba, she and Ryan “said [they] loved each other”, and there were “loads of talks of the future”. Her actual friends were planning her a surprise hen do that would have been separate from the show. So,”it was a bit of a shock” when he told her he no longer wanted to go through with the wedding.

Cuba told the Radio Times: “Even though I could feel him pulling away, we had these conversations of, ‘Okay, if it’s gonna end, we’ll talk about it.’ And then it was just kind of blind-sided when we actually did end. And then it was really hard for me because I genuinely believed we were gonna get married or I was gonna get married.”

The teaser for the upcoming Love Is Blind reunion episode hinted there may be more to Cuba and Ryan’s story which we haven’t seen yet… tea!
