‘It was perfect’: Kate Bush talks about Stranger Things using Running Up That Hill

She says she’s always been a fan of the show

Kate Bush was on BBC Woman’s Hour this morning speaking about how Stranger Things made her iconic song Running Up That Hill blow up.

She says the whole thing is just “extraordinary” and she “imagined the track would get some attention, but nothing like this.”

Speaking to Emma Barnett on the podcast, Kate Bush also admits she’s always been a fan of the show. She says it’s such a great series and she’s been watching it right from the start.

Kate Bush says: “The Duffer brothers created the series and actually we watched it from the first series onwards, so I was already familiar with the series. And I thought what a lovely way for the song to be used in such a positive way. You know, as a kind of talisman almost really for Max. I think it’s very touching, actually.”

Originally the song was titled “A Deal With God” but Kate says she thinks her record company was worried it wouldn’t get played on the radio as it felt like a “sensitive title”.

Kate Bush describes the 2022 hype around Running Up That Hill as “incredibly exciting”.
