These are all the real life filming locations of Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix
Alfea School is real!!
Netflix series Fate: The Winx Saga is like a blend of Pretty Little Liars meets Stranger Things, which is a crossover we didn’t know we needed until now. Opening scenes show views of an impressive manor, Alfea School, which we soon learn is a boarding school for fairies and specialists to learn all about their powers. With these shots, you might instantly be wondering all about the filming locations used in Fate: The Winx Saga.
No, the Otherworld isn’t a real place (obviously), but the places used to film the show are – and you can actually visit them. Here are all the real life filming locations used for Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix.
Most of the filming for Fate: The Winx Saga took place in locations across Ireland
The filming for the series took place across Wicklow, on the east coast of Ireland. Abigail Cowen, who plays Bloom, checked into the area on Instagram during filming – tagging places such as Wicklow Mountains and other local countryside spots.
According to Atlas of Wonders, the fall clips in the series are filmed at Powerscourt Waterfall, part of the Powerscourt Estate. This is a famous landmark and tourist attraction which features beautiful gardens and is located near Enniskerry, County Wicklow.
Alfea School in Fate: The Winx Saga is actually one of the biggest mansions in the area
And yes, Alfea School is a real place. It’s not a boarding school in real life, it is actually a house in County Wicklow, Ireland. Alfea is set in the fictional place of Solaria, but the real house is Killruddery House – a huge mansion. The 17th century manor is located on the outskirts of Bray, and was remodelled and extended in 1820. Part of the front wing was demolished in the 1950s and the remainder of the wing was redesigned. The building is recognised as one of the finest examples of the Elizabethan Rural style in the country.
If you’re wondering, the house is (usually, none pandemic permitting) open to visitors. The home hosts tours of the inside and its surrounding gardens. It also has a tea room, farm market and farm shop there and you can rent it for events such as parties and weddings. You can also become a member there to gain all year access to the house, gardens and amenities.
Other parts of the Netflix show, like when the cast are walking around the school grounds or filming outdoor classes, were filmed in the gardens of the house. The house has an glasshouse which was used as the plant laboratory in the show.
According to Atlas of Wonders, the central courtyard of the school was one of the only parts of the show which was filmed in a studio. The sound stage is located at Ardmore Studios in Bray and Ashford Studios in Ballyhenry, Ireland.
