Episodes of American Horror Story feature the Night Stalker Richard Ramirez

And in real life the killer stayed in the hotel from AHS: Hotel

This week, Netflix released a docuseries about the horrific crimes of and manhunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in US history, Richard Ramirez. Ramirez was dubbed the “Night Stalker” because of his crimes, and people are realising that episodes in an American Horror Story series were all about him too.

Ramirez was adapted into a fictional character by AHS creator Ryan Murphy, and episodes were based on the killer. Some viewers called the season the “worst ever” whilst others enjoyed the adaptation. Here’s all about the Night Stalker feature in American Horror Story.

The Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, was featured in American Horror Story: 1984

American Horror Story: 1984 is based in Camp Redwood, a haunted summer camp which is filled with serial killers, freaky ghosts and a lot of death. Zach Villa played the role of Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, who has supernatural powers to make him unkillable. Similarly to the Night Stalker documentary series, people called the 1984 American Horror Story excessively gory and very, very creepy.

1984 was when Ramirez began his Los Angeles killing spree, and Camp Redwood is based in LA at the time. Characters in the AHS series are attacked by the Night Stalker and he speaks to the owner of the camp about his childhood trauma. Ramirez even has a relationship with someone at the camp. The series also touches upon Richard Ramirez’s real life satanism. Ramirez features in every episode of the series.

His character in the series is described as: “Ramirez is an evil Satanist who will kill anyone. He has long, black hair. He is slender and he loves Billy Idol. Ramirez is manipulative and is charming. He has no emotions and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Ramirez can be kind sometimes but as long as he is alive, no one is safe.”

Ramirez also stayed in Hotel Cecil in real life, which is the hotel from American Horror Story: Hotel

You might also recognise the Night Stalker case from other seasons of AHS. Ramirez was staying at Hotel Cecil in LA when he committed his crimes – this is the hotel American Horror Story: Hotel is based on. There have been at least sixteen deaths at the Cecil resulting from non-natural causes, as a result of suicide, accident, or murder.
