Greggs are closing all stores indefinitely TOMORROW due to coronavirus

Heartbreaking news

Greggs have announced that they will be closing all stores from March 24th due to the coronavirus pandemic, because operating a takeaway service was simply not enough to maintain social distancing.

In a statement on Twitter, Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside wrote: “We’ve been doing everything we can to keep our shops open and everyone safe but it has become clear that to help us all maintain social distance we need to go further and close all of our shops completely.

So, we have made the difficult decision to close all of our shops on Tuesday March 24th. ”

The closure of the student favourite follows a host of major restaurant chains closing down amid the COVID-19 crisis, including McDonalds, Nando’s, Costa Coffee and various others.

One student said: “I really wish my northern king could have made it. Gutted I won’t get the chance to have one last chicken bake. I will crave it for the forseeable future, and be there as soon as doors re-open again.”

In response to the statement, one student tweeted: “As a Greggs worker I’m very relieved, the risk to the staff are under each day is unimaginable. It’s hard to control in such close quarters while serving hundreds of people a day. Thank you for protecting the amazing staff & customers, even if it was a little later than other shops.”
