Police in Greenville have said an “acquaintance” of Panettiere’s called 911, with emergency services subsequently attending the scene but being unable to save her.
Now, words Panettiere shared during her final public appearance are being revisited.
The actress appeared at a panel at Hollywood’s Harmony Gold Theater on 26th May to discuss her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, which had been released just days earlier. Panettiere used the event to speak openly about her experiences with addiction, postpartum depression, motherhood and growing up in the entertainment industry.
She explained that talking publicly about what she had been through had actually helped her process it, describing the experience as “healing”, according to Page Six.
And, while discussing messages she had received from people who said her honesty had encouraged them to seek help, Panettiere explained why she felt sharing her story had been worthwhile.

“So many people have come up to me within the industry and outside of the industry and shared their stories with me and said, ‘Because you’ve talked about your mental health, it gave me the courage to be honest about mine and get myself help, and you saved my life,’” she said.
“And I was like, ‘this is worth it’,” she continued.
“I can hopefully leave the world a better place than I found it. The strength is in our vulnerability.”
The comments came as Panettiere reflected on the experiences detailed in her 320-page memoir, including her struggles with postpartum depression and addiction.
She also spoke about her decision to give custody of her daughter, Kaya, to her former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko in 2018.
Panettiere said she had felt “guilt ridden” about being “completely incapable” of parenting Kaya at the time, while recalling one particularly hurtful comment she had received.
“The worst thing that somebody said to me is that it was a personal choice that I was making,” she said.
The actress also described her childhood in Hollywood as “brutal” and said she had “been groomed” from a young age.
