‘Mini me’: Hayden Panettiere’s touching last public words about daughter after custody battle

Hayden Panettiere spoke about her relationship with her daughter in an interview which is getting renewed attention after her tragic passing. 

Yesterday, 16th August, actress Hayden Panettiere was found unresponsive at a residence in South Carolina and was pronounced dead less than an hour later. The 36-year-old is best known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville and childhood classics Ice Princess and Bring It On.

The actress leaves behind one daughter, 11-year-old Kaya, who she co-parented with ex-fiancé and Ukrainian boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. Since having Kaya, Hayden has been very open about her struggle with postpartum depression and subsequent battle with addiction. While she was in recovery, she gave Vladimir full custody. 

“I was going through a really challenging time in my life… I knew I needed to be able to put her first so that I could get the help I needed and be the mom she needed me to be,” she said in an interview with Momé, shared just weeks ago.

Their relationship had greatly improved since this time, and the actress said they were closer than ever and saw each other often.

“I love my daughter, and I’m so proud of the young woman she is becoming. I talk to her all the time, and I feel so connected to her,” she explained.

Hayden added: “She’s like a mini-me.”

Since Hayden’s heartbreaking passing at just 36, many co-workers, friends and family members have poured in their tributes.

In a statement to People, Hayden’s dad Alan said: “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

A cause of death has not yet been revealed, but initial police statements confirm there is currently no suspected “foul play”.
