911 call audio reveals Hayden Panettiere suffered ‘cardiac arrest’ as her team responds

An ‘acquaintance’ made the call

The 911 call made before Hayden Panettiere’s death has been released, and the dispatch audio reveals that she suffered a “cardiac arrest” and mentions an alleged “overdose”. However, this hasn’t been confirmed.

Panettiere died at a home in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday. In a statement, the Greenville police department said: “On August 16, 2026, at approximately 1.51pm, officers from the Greenville police department, accompanied by EMS personnel, responded to a report of an unresponsive female at Judson Mill Lofts, located at 701 Easley Bridge Road.

“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE reveals that someone called about an “unidentified female” in “cardiac arrest”. You then hear the dispatcher say “CPR [was] in progress” for the “overdose”. Greenville police confirmed to PEOPLE that “an acquaintance of Ms Panettiere placed the 911 call,” but it hasn’t been confirmed who.

In a statement, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed that first responders and Emergency Medical Services “located a female in cardiac arrest” when they arrived on scene and said: “EMS personnel initiated advanced cardiac life support measures; however, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2.32pm.”

“An autopsy was completed today. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” coroner Mike Ellis added. “The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.”

There has been no confirmation from police or the coroner regarding the mention of an overdose in the 911 call. Panettiere’s representative told PEOPLE in response to the dispatch audio: “I don’t have any more information at this time, but it’s looking as though that is the case.”

Hayden’s death comes just three years after her brother Jansen passed away suddenly at the age of 28 in 2023 from an undiagnosed heart condition.
