‘It’s dark’: Police find photos of two missing women ‘dead’ in Philadelphia man’s house

The’ve been missing since 2012 and 2018

Police have found photos of two women who have been missing for years inside a man’s home in Philadelphia, where they appear to be “deceased” in the images.

Authorities have been investigating 44-year-old Eugene Horsch’s home in Olney, Philadelphia, since June after he was parked illegally in a space reserved for law enforcement near Independence National Historic Park. Police found two handguns and $8,000 in illegal drugs, and he was arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm and municipal drug and weapons charges.

There was also a woman in the car who had ID that belonged to a missing woman, Blair Tonzelli, which led police to conduct 96 search warrants of his home.

While searching the house, authorities found some hard drives containing 600,000 images, 70,000 videos and 10,000 pages of writings, manuscripts and drawings. On the hard drive were photos of two women who have been missing for years, and they appear to be deceased.

“While searching the first hard drive, homicide detectives found the images and video of what appeared to be two deceased females,” Philadelphia Police Inspector Ray Evers said, as per NBC10 Philadelphia. “Based on the video and photo evidence, if the images in the video are real and not altered in any way, based on their review, the M.E. would believe the individuals depicted in the images are deceased.”

Police have identified the women as Maribel Fresses, who was last seen in February 2018, and Gabrielle Amarando, who has been missing since September 2012.

“I’m not gonna get into exactly what I saw. It’s dark. It’s real dark. What we saw is these two girls alive, there is a period of time, and what appears to us they are deceased,” Evers said. “This is new territory for the homicide unit in Philadelphia. Usually, when we have a homicide investigation, we have a body, we have body parts. This time we do not.”

Authorities are still searching 20 containers of unknown chemical substances in the basement. Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said in a news conference: “Some of these chemicals, if they were to be put together and obviously ignited, they could cause some hazards. We just don’t know what he was doing. If he’s producing something, if he’s making something, if he’s irrigating something, we don’t know.”

“We’re going to further search,” he continued. “There’s a sump pump that looks like a hole in the ground, but there are no bodies. I don’t have any bodies.”

Police also found a handwritten note that mentions serial killer Ted Bundy and some urns filled with human remains, but police said “they could be just family members’ urns, we don’t know”.

Horsch hasn’t been handed any more charges at the time of writing this, and remains in custody on drugs and firearms charges.
