‘Peter Pan girl’ finally speaks out, revealing the deep reason she’s obsessed with the character

The drama surrounding the viral “Peter Pan girl” is still going on, but now the woman behind the meme, Toni, is speaking out. 

For the past few weeks, TikTok and Twitter have been discussing Disney adults and their often intense parasocial relationships with fictional characters. The latest focal point is Toni, a 27-year-old who has been visiting Disneyland every week for the past decade. 

Though her content is generally Disney-themed, Toni has a particular fascination with Peter Pan. She gifts him handmade items, skips after him in the park, and films their interactions for her 118k followers on TikTok. It’s sparked concerns surrounding safety because the actors are unable to break character and walk away. 

Of course, TikTok has spiralled into chaos during the viral saga. Toni’s videos have been edited to look like horror films, people are doing impressions of her, and former Disney actors are speaking out. 

Now, Toni Kulusich is speaking out as well.

The ‘Peter Pan girl’ says it’s been a ‘tough’ week 

Speaking to USA Today, Toni said that the internet has made her love for Peter Pan a bigger deal than it actually is. 

“People can take something really small and turn it into something big without even knowing what it’s truly about,” she said, saying it’s “been a little rough” this past week. “I’ve never expected to, like, blow up this much – of like, the entire internet to know I exist.”

Despite the backlash, Toni said she’s proud to be a Disney adult because it “means letting out your inner child.”

Toni also confirmed that she’s been going to Disneyland every week since as early as 2015, when she purchased an annual pass. Even before that, she frequented the park with her family, which is where she had a “magical” experience with Peter Pan that sparked her obsession. 

“He just made a really magical experience for me the first time,” she explained.

Ironically, Peter isn’t even her favourite aspect of the iconic park, because that honour goes to the Astro Blasters game. 

Toni continued: “I actually was there yesterday. “I don’t even always meet him. I held a [crochet] dinosaur for nine weeks ’cause we didn’t see each other … I wouldn’t have had it for nine weeks if I was that crazy trying to find him.”

Despite accusations of pestering Peter Pan, Toni said she’s consciously respectful of the actor’s boundaries when interacting with the public. 

“I strongly believe that because I’m someone who has worked for Disney, when I go [there], I always ask them, ‘Can I hug you?’ … I allow them to lead the interactions. So I’ll wait for him to be like, ‘Let’s go take a walk.’ I’m not gonna initiate the walk,” she added.
