MAFS experts John and Alessandra say filming the show after Mel’s death is ‘bittersweet’

The next season of MAFS Australia is currently being filmed. Season 14 will be the first since the expert Mel Schilling sadly died from cancer in March 2026. The MAFS experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla have discussed what filming the new season has been like.

John Aiken told Nine: “It’s a little bittersweet, because, you know, with Mel not being here now. It’s sort of difficult at times. But, you know, we are flying the Married At First Sight flag.”

“It’s very different this year,” Alessandra said, “but we are really enjoying the process of creating something new also.” She also told Yahoo Lifestyle: “It’s a different energy.”

Channel Nine hasn’t made an official announcement yet about another expert joining MAFS Australia. However, a new expert has reportedly been hired. The relationship coach Brigitte Zonta (who goes by Dr Luvre) will feature in season 14, according to MailOnline.

The MAFS Australia experts also updated us on how production for season 14 is going. John told Nine: “It’s early on in the experiment, so with that being the case, they’re really being tested in terms of whether they’re able to open up and let someone in …. or whether they’re just going to keep to their old patterns and basically rule people out. So, that’s always fascinating to see who dives in.

“It’s always, I think, a really interesting part of the experiment, early on,” Alessandra explained, “because they still haven’t quite revealed themselves to us. That tends to happen as we go along. So, we’re right at the part where we get really excited because we really don’t know who’s going to make it and who won’t.”
