Um, Ariana Grande’s new tattoo appears to be a VERY permanent tribute to Ricky Álvarez

The meaning behind it is actually very romantic

Ariana Grande has added another tattoo to her collection, and this one appears to have a pretty significant meaning.

She revealed the new ink during the first of her London dates on her Eternal Sunshine tour, marking her first UK performance since 2019. Sitting delicately along her collarbone is the phrase “I do love you”, written in a small script.

If you’ve been following the recent Ariana Grande and Ricky Álvarez saga, you might recognise the wording.

The tattoo appears to match with one Álvarez has himself. His version is written in a more raised, three-dimensional style, but also sits across his chest. Álvarez is Grande’s former boyfriend, dancer and photographer, and the pair are thought to have rekindled their relationship recently.

The two originally dated from 2015 to 2016, after Álvarez worked as one of the backup dancers on Grande’s Honeymoontour.

Alvarez was one of the exes mentioned in her 2019 hit “thank u, next”, alongside Big Sean, Mac Miller and Pete Davidson. At the time, Grande sang: “wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh.”

But apparently, things have changed somewhat since then. They’ve increasingly been making their relationship less of a secret online, too, with the pair leaving public comments on each other’s social media posts.

Then, during a recent show in Brooklyn, Grande appeared to change the lyrics of “thank u, next”, singing: “Wrote some songs about Ricky, we always find our way back.”

If that wasn’t enough of a hint, the two effectively went Instagram official this week. Their photo dump included several mirror selfies showing them cuddling, alongside a particularly suspicious image: a close-up of a page where “I do love you” had been written in blue ink.

Grande has as many as 75 tattoos, beginning with the tiny heart above her toe that she got at 18. Quite a few of her tattoos are connected to people and projects that have meant something to her, including the “for good” tattoo she shares with Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, as well as an “E” representing Erivo’s character Elphaba.

At her latest show, she once again altered the lyrics of “thank u, next”, this time singing: “Wrote some songs about Ricky, we don’t talk about that.”
