Jack Osbourne’s health condition explained and what it means for I’m A Celeb’s Bushtucker trials

He was diagnosed at the age of 26

Jack Osbourne has brought heart, humour and honesty to this year’s I’m A Celeb, but behind the excitement of jungle life, the TV star is also living with an incurable health condition he’s been managing since his twenties.

Most viewers first met Jack on The Osbournes, the chaotic and iconic family reality show that made the Osbourne clan global household names. But while the cameras captured the laughter, arguments and rock-star madness, Jack was privately dealing with symptoms that later became life-changing.

Jack was diagnosed at just 26

Jack was only 26 when he was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). As per the NHS, MS is a lifelong condition that damages nerves and affects how messages travel around the body. Symptoms can include vision problems, numbness, fatigue and balance issues, and no two people experience it the same way.

Jack first realised something was wrong after losing 60 per cent of the vision in one eye and feeling numbness in his legs. The diagnosis arrived just three weeks after the birth of his daughter Pearl. He has previously described the moment as incredibly difficult.

He is still staying active despite his MS

Even after being diagnosed, Jack kept pushing himself physically. He famously made the final of Strictly Come Dancing US, later admitting he wasn’t sure what his limits would be.

In a Facebook post back in 2013, he said, “One of the first questions I was asked was, ‘How will having MS affect your ability to perform throughout the season?’ The truthful answer is… I had no idea.”

Before the final, he explained, “Although, since being diagnosed in May of 2012 with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), I’ve been able to maintain a very active and somewhat healthy lifestyle. I hadn’t had the opportunity to really figure out my limitations.”

He later took on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in 2023, but had to pull out after medics flagged his elevated heart rate. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jack said, “The show’s doctors were more concerned than I was. I’m pretty healthy considering I’m living with MS, but it doesn’t present itself daily for me. I’ve been, touch wood, going pretty strong, and I don’t have any issues with it right now. So that wasn’t a concern.”

So, will Jack take part in the Bushtucker trials?

Bushtucker trials are a huge part of I’m A Celeb. But not every contestant is able to take part in all of them, especially when health conditions are involved.

Before entering the jungle, Jack addressed concerns that his MS might hold him back. Speaking to ITV, he insisted he would give everything a go, “I’m not a picky eater, and we will see. And maybe you are so hungry you will just want to eat anything!”

Jack also pointed out that physical challenges don’t worry him too much. He said, “Heights do not bother me at all, because I have been climbing for years. And I’ve done some pretty sizeable routes, so it’s not a problem for me.” He then added, “But I’m not really great with bugs.”

Because of the heat and humidity this year, which is higher than usual, people working on the show are keeping a close eye on how Jack copes day-to-day. Hot, sticky conditions can sometimes make MS symptoms worse. So everyone around him wants to be sure he’s safe and comfortable.

Still, Jack is determined to take part wherever he can.
