Outrageous! Tesco’s meal deal price has gone up AGAIN, and this is how much it costs now
When will it stop
The nation’s favourite hangover cure, library lunch staple and broke student lifesaver has been hit with another price hike. Yes, Tesco is upping the cost of its meal deal AGAIN.
From tomorrow (21st August), the regular meal deal will rise from £3.60 to £3.85 with a Clubcard and from £4 to £4.25 without. The premium deal is also going up, climbing from £5 to £5.50 with a Clubcard and an offensive £6 without.
Discovering that a @Tesco meal deal will be £3.85 *with* a Clubcard from Thursday was truly devastating 🫠 pic.twitter.com/Bqsd7jCKbJ

This isn’t the first time Tesco’s pulled this stunt. Back in August 2024, the Clubcard price went up from £3.40 to £3.60. Before that, in October 2022, it jumped for the first time in a decade from £3 to £3.40. Basically, your student loan doesn’t stand a chance.
A Tesco spokesperson has defended the move.
“Our meal deal remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on the go at just £3.85 for a main, snack and drink when bought with a Clubcard. With more than 20m possible combinations, the Tesco meal deal has got something for every taste, from a classic Chicken Club Sandwich to Tesco Korean Style Chicken Dragon Rolls.”
But customers aren’t buying it. One Tesco worker leaked a picture of the new shelf labels, calling the deal “hardly a deal anymore,” while another person on Reddit said Tesco might as well “get rid of the meal deal if they keep upping the price”.

It’s not just Tesco, though. Sainsbury’s already raised its meal deal this summer from £3.75 to £3.95, marking the second increase in less than a year. Even Tesco’s boujee Finest Dine In deal (main, side, dessert and drink for two) went up earlier this year from £12 to £15 with a Clubcard.
Food inflation in July hit 4%, the sixth monthly rise in a row, with retailers blaming wage costs and National Insurance contributions.
But still — six quid for a sandwich, crisps and Coke? We’re living in hell.
