‘A teachable moment’: Carnival Cruises issues fresh statement as Poop Cruise drops on Netflix
‘We will continue to operate to high standards’
Carnival Cruises has issued a statement as Netflix just released the documentary film, Trainwreck: Poop Cruise. The hour-long documentary focuses around what should have been a relaxing holiday, but soon became known as the “poop cruise”.
The case happened in 2013, aboard cruise liner Carnival Triumph. The luxury cruise soon met disaster when a fault meant it was stranded at sea. The ship suffered a fire in an engine room which then knocked out the cruise liner’s power. The boat drifted – without power – for four days in total. For the whole time guests and staff were without air conditioning, and largely without lights, water, food or working toilets.
People on the ship were told to “do a number one in the shower” and a “poop in a red bag”. The Netflix documentary gives a first-hand telling of what happened, from those who were on board. Reviews of the show have back it as gross, but hilarious.
Since the show has dropped, Carnival Cruises said in a statement to The Tab that the incident was “a teachable moment”. The company said it invested millions on improvements after what happened, and will now “continue to operate to these high standards.”
