The chilling words uttered by child killer as he becomes latest man to be legally executed
Oscar Franklin Smith was convicted of killing his estranged wife and her two children
The latest man to be killed on death row in the US uttered some truly chilling final words before his demise.
Oscar Franklin Smith was executed by lethal injection on 22nd May after murdering his estranged wife and her two children in Nashville.
Smith shot and stabbed his wife Judith, alongside her children Jason Burnett and Chad Burnett in 1989. The boys were 13 and 16 respectively at the time of their deaths.
He was on death row for more than 30 years for the triple murder, which occurred shortly after Judith announced she wished to separate from the now deceased killer.
For Smith’s final meal, the triple killer had hot dogs, tater tots, and apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
Before his death, he slammed the government in a lengthy statement, as well as Tennessee governor Bill Lee who suspended Smith’s execution in 2022.
He refused to admit to the crimes, even in his final moments, saying: “Too many of us are being killed for someone else’s deeds.” And, as he started to go to sleep from the injection, uttered: “I didn’t kill her, I didn’t kill her.”
During his final moments, Smith had his spiritual adviser present, who sang I’ll Fly Away, an eerie song that talks of dying and going to heaven.

At Smith’s trial, it was heard how Judith’s two children tried to save their mother and each other, being labelled “heroes” by the prosecution.
The jury were also played the 911 recording from the killing, in which Judith could be heard screaming “Frank, no”.
However, despite the mammoth evidence against Smith, he continued to maintain his innocence up until his death.

“We miss the excitement of planning Chad’s driving lessons, and we miss the pure joy of hearing Jason’s laughter. These are memories and wounds that will never fully heal.”
